What' s Super Smash Bros.?

Super Smash Bros. is a series of crossover fighting games, featuring the most iconic characters, stages and items of Nintendo's rich history. Characters such as Mario, Link, Kirby, and Pikachu all duke it out in a free-for-all type contest. In addition, Nintendo includes many different franchises that aren't as recognizable as these, such as Earthbound, Animal Crossing and even the Game & Watch games. The first of the Smash Bros. series (named Super Smash Bros.) appeared on the Nintendo 64 and featured only 12 playable characters. When the series moved onto the GameCube with Super Smash Bros. Melee, the character selection grew to 25 playable characters, and by the time Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released, the roster grew to 39 different fighters. The series itself has a reputation of being a great game to play with friends, and serves as a homage to Nintendo's legacy, past and present. The newest entry, entitled Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is going to be released for the Wii U and 3DS, and features many more different franchises so far.
